The 21 Day Journey Towards Vibrant Health. Day 4. The BALANCE Point is Where Life Thrives!

Let's talk about the word BALANCE.

When you look around…EVERYWHERE…you’ll find opposing forces:

Yin and Yang, night and day, light and dark, hot and cold, positive and negative, acid and alkaline, north and south, wet and dry, male and female.

When you REALLY dig in a bit, you’ll notice something very interesting. Life requires…and THRIVES IN…a combination of two opposing forces coming together in BALANCE. It’s not a commentary that day is better than night or hot is better than cold…or women are better than men (wink). The ultimate spot…the zen place…nirvana…heaven…LIFE can be found somewhere in the middle.

Let’s look at a few examples:

Hot and cold.

Hot is, well…hot. Here in AZ, I can assure you that once July roles around and the mercury hits 120, it’s HOT…and it’s not a place you or practically ANYTHING else wants to live. Let’s contrast that with Minnesota (where I lived for 28 years) in January. COLD! When it’s 30 below zero, life freeeezes up and waits for spring. Really. Not a lot of thriving is going on in that environment.

It’s funny…because I literally went from the freezer to the frying pan.

WARM on the other hand…the balance point…is perfect…is perfect. Life thrives in a nice warm setting.

The balance point between the north and south poles is the equator…where most of the life on the planet exists. In the balance of night and day, we get to see amazing sunrises and sunsets.

And of course the balance between acid and alkaline is neutral…which is where you want your body to be. It’s not that acid is bad and alkaline is good. It’s about BALANCE.

Your body is made to be alkaline, but practically everything your body does produces acid. You need both to live…but they must exist in balance.

On the surface, it may seem that DEPOSITS are better than WITHDRAWLS. But if you didn’t withdrawal money to pay for your garbage to be take from your home, your place would stink. And if you didn’t pay the water bill, you’d stink. And if you didn’t spend some money on the fun things in life, your life would stink. Now, if your withdrawals EXCEED your deposits, you go into a deficit…a state of imbalance…and that creates stress.

Your body…like everything else in life, NEEDS balance. If you give it the right amount of the right kinds of raw materials and an optimal environment, your body WORKS. Your body is very process oriented…it’s like an assembly line. If something’s missing, during the process of BUILDING, the given task goes uncompleted. And that’s not good.

I want you to think about this concept of balance as you approach your health. This journey is really going to be a lot about rediscovering this truth…that balance is somewhere in the middle.

While I COULD tell you there is indeed a list of foods that are good for you and you shouldn’t eat anything BUT them or anything “bad” for you…I won’t. Not because it isn’t TRUE, but because it’s not real.

If you eat something that’s not in your best interest…something too acidic for example, I’d rather tell you how to balance it out than beat up about it. Let’s face it…a lot of fun foods aren’t good for you. And having some fun in your life creates balance.

I’ve done extremes…I’ve gone on a pure alkaline diet where I ate no meat, no sugar, no yeast, no condiments, no dairy, no alcohol…nothing but basically raw and green veggies and nuts and grains…and it WORKS…but it’s not necessary. Not if you’re in a balanced state.

If you’re really unhealthy, don’t be surprised if I suggest that you go to such an extreme for a period of time…but you won’t have to live there forever.

OK? Fair enough?

So. Be mindful of this idea…that LIFE hangs in the BALANCE as we continue our journey towards VIBRANT LIVING!

Stay BALANCED and stay well!

this makes me so relieved -- it's so hard to just eat the proper foods. makes it impossible to go out to dinner or have fun. this program is gonna allow me to be my usual 90% good -- and not worry about the rest of it. balance -- yes, thank you! great blog.

I'd love to lived balanced. But I've been unbalanced for 10 years and now I'm about 30 pounds to the hefty side of life. Maybe If I do this ph diet I can lose it?

Sure the pH diet will help you lose the weight. But there will be less of you to love ----- mr muffin

I like your approach. It seems like a lot of people get into a ditch. Have you heard of the alkavorian diet? I tried it and couldn't find hardly anything to eat that I liked - not even bread. I do agree that balance is everything.

Nice analogy. I am a very healthy person, but I could use a little more "balance". My family is always complaining that I'm tooooooo rigid :) Maybe I'll splurge on some Christmas cookies this year.

We have an alkalizing cookie dough recipe. Ha. JK. Merry Christmas!
