The 21 Day Journey Towards Vibrant Health. Day 1. WHY Do You Want To Be Healthy?

David Whelan  |  18 Comments

OK... so for the next 21 days, I'm going to give you the blueprint for vibrant health. My goal is to change the way that you look at your health and hopefully your life. Why 21 days? Because it takes 21 days to form a habit… and hopefully after you’ve gotten into the habit of vibrant health, you’ll graduate to the lifestyle and never ending journey towards it as well.

I'm going to call this "The 21 Day Journey Towards Vibrant Health"

Let's first talk about the most important consideration... WHY.

WHY do you want to be healthier?

Whether you feel DRIVEN to a mission in life, or called to one, you won’t experience ultimate happiness and fulfillment if your body can’t get you across the finish line. Would you trade your health for money? If you had $1 million dollars but couldn’t get out of bed to enjoy it…would it be worth anything? Think about that for a minute.

When I say the word “healthy”, what comes to mind? Is health merely the absence of sickness or disease? Unfortunately, for many it is. They say… If I we’re 20 pounds lighter, I’d be healthy. Or If I didn’t have to suffer from chronic pain, I’d be healthy. Or If I didn’t have to feel link my stomach was on fire all of the time, I’d be healthy.

But For some, though, the word “healthy” means something else…something more.

How about this notion… that if you’re actually healthy…really healthy, you simply FEEL better. And isn’t that really what we’re all after? We want to feel good. We want to feel good about how we look, we want to feel good knowing that we have the kind of energy it takes to enjoy time with our families and excel in our careers?

If you don’t have a good enough reason to GET healthy, you won’t stay the course. Here’s a challenge. Obviously, since you’re reading this, you’re at least somewhat serious about achieving a better quality of health and of life.

Now… take this extra step and crystallize the WHY… Because if you have a compelling enough reason to not only GET healthy but to STAY healthy, you’ll make healthy, vibrant living a HABIT and a lifestyle… and your journey towards it will never end.

Here are a few examples:

* I want to lose 30 pounds so that I can fit into my bridesmaids dress next spring.. My sister will kill me if I can't!

* I want to look younger so that I feel bettter about myself.

* I want to live healthier so that I can be around to see my grandchildren get married.

* I want to have more energy so that I can be more productive. Times are hard, and my business needs to succeed.

* I have cancer, and I refuse to die now...it's not my time yet. I'm a fighter, and I have hope.

Tell yourself why. Write the reasons down. Then tell your spouse why. A friend why. Comment below and tell me and others why. WHY you WANT to and NEED to be healthier.

Tomorrow, we’ll be talking about how to really take charge of your body, your health and your life... so until then, stay very well!

Cya!

~David.

David - I'm so glad I found your site. I came accross one of your videos on youtube - the one talking about colon health. It was very well done. I just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work. We need more good spokespeople for alternative health speaking the truth!

I just turned 60. I went raw / alkaline in the last year or so, and I've lost about 40 lbs since. I also stopped eating gluten foods like wheat and also dairy. I did this mostly because I have arthritis, and my nutritionist suggested that. I actually LOVE this way of eating and living. I have been at this weight for about 6 months and I just feel good all around. I eat mostly fruits and veggies, green drinks, raw nuts, chips and salsa (i love it) or chips and hummus. I make marinated veggie salads that I take to the office for lunch - or just brong tomatos and raw cheese to make a caprese salad (splash it with olive oil and balsamic - yum). I also found that raw food bars really help me if I get hungry while I'm out. there are a lot of them out there now. I can't IMAGINE going back to eating so much junk like I used to.

My son gave me a book written my Dr Christopher Vasey called The Acid Alkaline Diet. He gave it to me because I have breast cancer, and I really do not want to undergo chemical therapy or radiation. While I am less hopeful than my son is (the eternal optimist) that something natural will work, I will give it an honest try. I've read that there is a correlation between pH and cancer, but I also see information to the contrary. To be honest, I'm not sure who to trust. I know that the medical industry is all about "profit", but I also see nutrition companies that give false hope.

This is my goal - to get rid of this tumor without having to have my breast removed. I will do whatever it takes to succeed - and hopefully suceed in a natural way.

I wish you the best in your recovery! Let me assure you of this - when your internal environment is clean and healthy, the chances that cells will mutate into cancer is much less likely.

Aaaw. that's so sad :(

My mom had breast cancer, but she didn't know back then what she knows now. If she did she would have take the natural route.

I admire your open mindedness, and I wish the best for you.

i'd like to lose the 20 pounds that I gained over the summer. i've done it before. i lost about 30 pounds when I first went on the alkaline diet. but like sylvia said below - it seems expensive to stay healthy, and cheaper foods go right to my butt! maybe that's just an excuse. but with me, I've always struggled with weight. it goes on, and then I lose it, and then it shows up again :(

OK. I want to find ways to be healthier without having to spend a ton of money. the company I work for is downsizing, and I'm a bit concerned for my job. Eating good does cost a lot if you shop at places like whole foods. And that sometimes can be discouraging for me. I'd love to be able to afford to be healthier.

I'm coming from the opposite side. I CAN"T afford to get sick. I literally can't! I changed jobs 3 months ago and I lost my health care coverage. I have no health insurance. I'm in my 50's, and I can't afford for something to go wrong with my body. I'd rather invest a little more now than wake up in a few years with something major wrong with my health.

I agree with you Lana, and I actually hear this a lot these days. People are really concerned. Asking yourself "Can I afford to get sick?" is a great question. For a lot of people, the answer is no - especially because they are not insured.
michael s wright  (22 months ago)
I work for an insurance company in human resources - and trust me - the insurance companies don't want you to get sick either - or to pay for it at least.

Sylvia... keep coming back to the blog - because I'll be sharing a LOT of ways to "eat healthy for less". This is a common issue I hear from people. But there are ways to manage your health and budget at the same time!
