All disease is due to inflammation, which is directly linked to the body's pH balance. pH balance is an index for the health of the whole body. The pH level can be tested through urine, blood plasma, or saliva.
The easiest way to test pH balance is to use pH test strips available at many health food stores and the occasional drug store. To test the pH balance of saliva, you wet the end of the paper in your mouth and compare the resulting color with a chart that comes with the strips. You should take a saliva / urine test every morning. Acidity is measured on a scale of 0 to 14. A reading of 7 shows a neutral, balanced pH. Someone in an ideal state of health will test with a salivary pH reading between 7 and 7.5.
If your saliva tests lower than 6.5, you should begin drinking healthy alkaline water, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, and adding spices such as turmeric, cumin, coriander and fennel to your meals. Asparagus, broccoli, kale and cabbage are especially good to build into your diet.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition recently finished a seven-year study of 10,000 women on the relation between chronic acidosis and bone mass loss. The study concluded that the chronic high acidosis was caused by diets high in animal foods and low in vegetables.
Different parts of the body have different pH levels. The stomach needs higher acidity in order to digest food properly. But when the overall body pH is too acidic, this can lead to immune deficiency, fatigue, obesity, diabetes, bladder and kidney problems, joint pain, fungal overgrowth, hormonal imbalances and premature aging.
Bad breath, headaches, fatigue and allergies might suggest an unbalanced pH level. Too much acidity can also be connected with low moods and irritability. When your pH is good, you feel good. When your pH is low, you feel stiff and cranky, and you don't sleep well. People who notice trouble with sleeping, skipping meals, breathing shallowly and those who have difficulty dealing with stress, are experiencing some of the common factors that come along with low pH levels.
The use of olive oil over canola or other hydrogenated oils is recommended. Avoid refined sugar wherever possible, as well as jams and preserves, aspartame, processed fruit juices, processed cheese, beef, pork and shellfish.
Fresh or freeze-dried foods, even acidic ones like citrus fruits, help the body buffer and neutralize acidity in a healthy way, but processed foods do not. Eating healthful foods in reasonable quantities, instead of too much or too little, also supports a balanced pH level.
Popular drinks have some highly unfortunate pH levels. Soft drinks have a pH of 2; beer tests at 2.5; and coffee's pH is 4.
Drinking naturally alkaline spring water is an excellent way to promote balance, but not everyone has easy access to this. Brands of bottled water vary widely in their pH levels. You can make your own healthy, ionic, structured alkaline water by adding pHion Booster to it. Many of the bottled waters on the market have an acidic pH. Don't just read the label and believe what you read.
You should maintain a regular routine with meal times and sleep patterns, as well as practicing a daily form of spiritual activity such as meditation or prayer. Cultivating positive feelings toward oneself, others and life is also health-giving.
The primary rule of pH balance always comes back to the breath. You have to breathe anyway, so breathe a little deeper, always. It doesn't cost you anything; no one's going to bill you for your deep breaths. Deep breathing helps to expel CO2, which is created from carbonic acid... a chemical created by the neutralization of weak acids.
